It's been a while since anyone posted anything of Maya here, but here you go!
I think we need to teach her some Christmas Carols next. or at least the next line of the Birthday Song! Enjoy!

maya hunting for easter eggs. and actually finding lots. we then switched out the plastic eggs filled with chocolate and put grapes inside. she loved it. finding things inside. and yes we did leave some chocolate in a few. --Joshua "Dad"

very late V-day pics...

                                                                                                                                               I got the hint and am FINALLY posting the few pictures I have from Valentine's weekend.. Matthew and I had a great time and look forward to seeing everyone...especially Miss Maya.. very soon!!! 

And the Winner Is ...

Aunt Emily gave Noni (her mommy) a picture frame for Christmas, so she (my Noni) could put a new recent photo of me (Maya) in it. Noni decided to have a contest among my uncles, aunt, and my Papa to see who had the best photo. Of course it was rigged, because my papa had many more opportunities to capture the perfect photo. It would be a bit easier for him, if I hadn't learned that there was a baby (me!) in the camera and video camera and come running for a look whenever he takes them out!
Aunt Em voted for the one of me feeding Noni at Thanksgiving, but Noni really just wanted a recent, close-up of me! SO Papa submitted these entries and guess who won!?!
























This one was a close runner up (what expressive fingers and intense concentration!)














But The Winning Entry (already used as Aunt Em's and Noni's desktop background) is ... drum roll, please is ... (btw, have you seen or heard me play Papa's djembe?! I am awesome!) is ...

Maya at the Beach

O My Gosh! Look at the change in this girl from last year at almost exactly the same time to this year! She and her mama and papa spent a week at Wrightsville NC with her lucky grandparents, Bill and Carrie. Then, this year at least, a second week with grandparents, Craig and Carol. Noni and Popi hope to spend a week with them either at Hilton Head or in NC mountains. We tried to coordinate with Matthew and Ally, Emily, and Jeremy, but couldn't synchronize everyone's schedules! Next year!!!

Noni's UN-biased Opinion

I know you will not believe that I am unbiased, but Maya is really the cutest, smartest, sweetest baby in the WORLD. Just ask any of her Grandparents!! I was too busy enjoying her during my visit over Memorial Day to take time out and get very many photos, but here's a sampling.

 

Maya's papa thought he'd entertain her by blowing soap bubbles and it was an instant hit! She made valiant attempts to blow them herself, but doesn't have it quite yet. And she loves to play with big people's shoes; putting her feet in and out of them, arranging and re-arranging them.

She has an extensive sign vocabulary: butterfly, frog, dog, more (which she even uses when she's sees a picture of food!), all done, water, baby, flower, eat, brush teeth, down, up, dog, and I'm sure there are more! She picked up 'bird' while I was there, and possibly 'apple' (one she and I invented, anyway). I love how she cycles through them sometimes, running through her repertoire. And she is saying words now: baby and read are very obvious! She has her own way of describing things with wheels: a vroom vroom noise! And a sweet, high pitched and very accurate meow to "say" cat. Good thing their cats are so tolerant!!

I really could go on and on about all the amazing things she did or said! I'll do my best to get a few short video clips posted soon, but this will have to do you for now! Those of you who are lucky will soon see for yourselves what I mean!

The News (as heard from Maya's Noni who heard it from Maya's Dad) is that she is walking!!! at least a little...

Quick Visit

Now that I am in Huntsville, AL, I am a lot closer to Sewanee. I made a quick little visit to see Josh, Julia and Maya and got some video of Maya crawling. She has gotten it down in the month since I last saw her. For everyone who needs their Maya Fix... here you go:

Stand Up!

I got this t-shirt from my Great-Aunt Debbie. How did she know how much I love to stand
up?! My folks were a bit worried I'd walk before I crawled, but I figured out how to make that all come together and now Papa better get busy and "child proof" the house! I've got things to do and people to see. I'm on the move! Oh and look at my two new top teeth!

Food is Fun

I got to sit at the table with all the big folks and eat a banana when I was at my Noni and Popi's house! it was sooo much fun and squishy, too! I even got some in my mouth, tho most of it got on my face and all over my shirt and my Papa's shirt, too (he was sitting next to me!) The next night I had butternut squash and it was yummy too, tho Mama fed me with a spoon.
